ANTIOXIDANTS AND FREE RADICALS.
Today I want to dig into subjective, antioxidants and free radicals. How often have you come across a healthy article, that mention, how food in full of antioxidants and how this helps fight free radicals. That sounds good, but what are free radicals.? What are they doing in my body.? And are they supposed to be there.?
Let’s get into the signs of it.

Antioxidants and free radicals have something in common, for a starter, they both are chemicals, found naturally in your body. Production of both can also be increased by diet and the environment respectively.
In terms of the relationship between the two, antioxidants are what blocks the activity of free radicals. Free radicals are bad guys. Antioxidants are good guys, and they stop free radicals from doing what they do. But what do a free radical deal, and why are they bad.? Let’s find out.
Free radicals are highly reactive chemicals that can harm cells. A lot of scientific research has looked at, how the damage free radical can do might be linked to the development of cancer and other health conditions.
Our bodies are comprised of billion of molecular cells, held together by electronic bonds.sometimes these molecules are held together by a weak bond. It can split apart resulting in an unstable molecule with a unpaired electron. This molecule is known as a free radical. Some free radicals occurred normally in our bodies through metabolism. However, there are many environmental factors that can cause excess of free radicals, such as;
LACK OF EXERCISE
LACK OF SLEEP
These free radicals will start attacking healthy nearby cells, in an attempt to replace this missing electron. When the attacked molecule loses its electron, it becomes free radical itself. This can cause a chain reaction to occur, resulting in the destruction of millions of nearby molecules. This chain reaction is known as oxidative stress, is thought to be the leading causes for
AND CANCER SUSCEPTIBILITY.
We can see the results of this oxidation in our everyday life such as a rust in a piece of iron rod or fruit that expose to air turn brown because of oxidation. Imagine, these happening in your body. It’s literally decaying otherwise healthy cells. So how do we protect ourselves from these free radicals in our body?
Well, if the destructive process through oxidation and the answer anti-oxidant. The opposite of oxidation. This is achieved with antioxidants. Antioxidants stop the chain reaction by donating their own electron to the free radicals. The great thing is that antioxidant nutrients itself do not become free radicals by giving away its electrons. It’s kind of like a win- win situation to the both antioxidants and the free radicals.
Well, we look at some fruits that having the ability to pass free radical into our body. By the oxygen radical absorbance capacity test(ORAC).
